The Divisional System at 219 NLCC Holger Storm

• Accountability: Divisional Petty Officers take attendance and make sure cadets are safe and accounted for.
   
• Communication: Announcements and updates are shared first in divisions, so cadets don’t miss key information.
   
• Team Spirit: Divisions encourage pride, cooperation, and healthy competition between groups.
   
• Support: If you have questions or challenges, your Divisional Petty Officer is your first point of contact.
   

Cadets are expected to fall in with their division at the beginning and end of every night—this keeps the corps organized and efficient.

Our corps currently has four proud divisions, each named after historic Royal Canadian Navy ships:

• Athabaskan – Named after HMCS Athabaskan, a Tribal-class destroyer that served in WWII and later Cold War service. It represents courage and sacrifice.
   
• Bonaventure – Named after HMCS Bonaventure, Canada’s last aircraft carrier, serving as the navy’s flagship from 1957 to 1970. It represents leadership and innovation.

• Canso – Named after HMCS Canso, a Royal Canadian Navy minesweeper that served during the Second World War on coastal patrol and escort duties in Canadian and European waters. The name reflects Canada’s maritime heritage and the vigilance and dedication of sailors who protected vital sea lanes during wartime.
  
• Haida – Named after HMCS Haida, known as “Canada’s Fightingest Ship,” which fought in WWII and the Korean War. Preserved as a museum ship today, it represents tradition and fighting spirit.
   

Each cadet carries forward the legacy of their division’s ship, while also building their own leadership and teamwork skills within their group.
